How We Work
Building a home is complex.
The decisions along the way don't have to be.
Our process is structured so you're making the right calls at the right time — with clarity, not pressure. Each stage builds on your approval of the last. We don't move forward until you're ready.
It starts with you
We meet on your site. We listen. We want to understand why you chose this piece of land and what you imagine your life here looking like. This stage is as much about whether we're a good fit for each other as it is about the project itself. No drawings yet — just a conversation.
Exploring the possibilities
We start wide — loose sketches, diagrams and models that explore what your site could become. Nothing is locked in. We're testing ideas, looking at different approaches and narrowing options down together. By the end of this stage, we'll have a refined brief, alternate options to weigh up, and a mood board for material direction.
Shaping the direction
We take your preferred direction and develop it into measured plans, sections and 3D models. How does the kitchen connect to the garden? Where does the afternoon sun land? How does the house sit in the landscape? By the end of this stage, you'll have a clear concept of how your home will look and function.
Making it real
Now we zoom in. Materials are specified, junctions resolved, cabinetry and built-in furniture designed. We coordinate with engineers and produce measured drawings ready for pricing. If there are specialist systems — solar, batteries, alternative construction — we assess them here. This is where the design gets specific.
Documentation and consent
We prepare everything needed for building consent — structural details, weatherproofing, full specifications — working with specialist consultants where needed. We manage the consent application and liaise with council on your behalf. At the end of this stage, you'll have a stamped consent set and a complete drawing package for construction.
Carrying the vision through
We stay involved throughout construction. Regular site meetings, oversight at key moments, and ongoing coordination with your builder. The team that designed your home sees it built — making sure what goes up is what was drawn.
We bring your builder in early
Most practices design in isolation and hand a finished set of drawings to a builder at the end. We do it differently. We bring builders into the conversation early — so we're designing with a realistic picture of what's buildable and what it costs. It means fewer surprises, better decisions, and a team that's invested in seeing your project through from the start.
The process is complex.
It doesn't need to be confusing.
