Arthur Street Renovation
The current house is large and open but lacks spatial discipline, views and sunlight. The proposed renovation reorganises spaces to better connect with the outdoors and each other, while providing a framework for furniture, art and activity.
The client wants a home that is celebratory of its social intention but comfortable for a sole person or small group. It is a hub for friends to drop in for a swim, dance or meal. It is a catalyst for conversation. The renovation takes what already works with the house but provides a youthful and social layer to the architecture.

Rooms are rearranged to better focus on the views of the city and to attain more natural light inside.
The swimming pool runs along the side of the building creating a playful water feature and light sculpture. A fun addition to any party. A sunken living room creates a more casual but private hang out zone, separate but connected to the larger living areas. This is intended as the daily living area and perfect for morning coffee, late night conspirings and sitting by the hanging fireplace. |

The house is opened and extended to the North with a new roof deck being built over the primary living area and kitchen. Below is the swimming pool built against the glass facade of the building.
A spiral staircase connects both levels. On top is a spa pool, cold plunge and sauna. Below, connections between inside and outside are reinforced. The primary outdoor cooking area is found adjacent to the indoor kitchen. The band room is visible in the distance. |

Entrering the proposed home, there is now a strong visual axis through the house with the pool in the background, drawing visitors in.
The interior has been opened up to form a double height space the celebrates the frame of the existing building and providing welcome surprise. A modern staircase is inserted in the void with ample space for larger art pieces, coat and shoe storage and a guest bathroom. |

The house has overlapping larger and smaller living zones so tht guest may find what suits them in that moment.
Privacy can be found without needing to shut oneself away, while simultaneously larger groups have space to socialise. The house can easily adapt for functions and larger parties. The dining zone weaves livign and kitchen areas with the DJ control both as the centerpiece. |
